Choose a root note and a chord type and this tool works out the shapes on the fretboard for you. It is not reading from a list of chords somebody typed in, so it handles the awkward ones too, and it works in seven tunings including drop D, DADGAD and ukulele.
How to read the diagrams
Strings run left to right, low E first. A circle above the diagram means play that string open, a cross means do not play it at all. A bar across the diagram is a barre: one finger flat across every string at that fret.
Green dots mark the root note of the chord. If a shape starts above the nut you will see the fret number down the left-hand side.
Which shape should I use?
The shapes are ordered by how easy they are to play, so the first one is usually the one to learn first. Shapes further down sit higher up the neck, which matters when you are moving between chords and want to stay in one place rather than jumping about.
Switch on Show intervals to see what each note is doing in the chord rather than its name. That is the view worth learning if you want to move shapes around yourself instead of looking them up.
