I want to follow in daddy’s footsteps

Let me be the man he wanted me to be

I want to follow the path of righteousness

Remembering all the things he told to me

He said son love thy neighbor

And trust in Him above

Think not of hate but keep within

A heart that’s filled with love

I want to follow in daddy’s footsteps

Let me be the man my daddy used to be

Yes Jesus let me follow in the footsteps of my dad

Cause ’twas him that often told me of you on your throne of gold

And he told me of how You searched the mountain

For the little lamb that went astray

And brought him back and tucked him so safely in the fold

And he told me how they hung You on the cold and bitter cross

And his story went on how they placed the crown upon your head

And he told me how they pierced your tender side O Son of God

And left you there to hang until you were dead

That’s why I want to follow in the footsteps of my daddy now

Because I want to be the man that he wanted me to be

And then some day just as he told me before he left us and went away

My loving daddy with my Jesus I shall see

So I’ll trust in the Father that watches from above

To take good care of daddy and shower him with precious love

I want to follow in daddy’s footsteps
