Better Things Than These

You thought you’d set the world on fire that life was just a song

You thought if you’d try hard enough things couldn’t turn out wrong

How feeble is the strength of those whose heartaches never ease

But there may be a chance for me for better things than these

So many battles fought and lost you’ve heard of constantly

From someone left to pay the cost and this time it’s me

But there’s one thing I’m hoping for someday the pain will leave

Tomorrow may reveal to me much better things than these

You’ve learned to love somebody new it seems that I can’t bear

To see you in another’s arm and know you’re happy there

My heart is broken still I try a jealous heart to please

It’s hard to smile but God may show me better things than these
